The Manda Pit is the largest surviving coal-mine facility in Japan, designated a National Important Cultural Property. Its vertical shaft remains a powerful symbol of the Arao–Omuta coal-mining heritage.

Drift along the canals of 'water-town Yanagawa' aboard the iconic donko-bune flat-bottom boat. The boatman's skillful pole work and traditional boat songs set the mood for a leisurely one-hour cruise through quiet seasonal charm.

The birthplace of poet Kitahara Hakushū displays his books, personal effects, and materials tied to the Yanagawa region. The adjoining museum, built on a corner of the Kitahara estate, features Yanagawa's distinctive namako-kabe (sea-cucumber wall) earthen storehouse construction.

Set at the southern edge of Enmei Park — a favorite Omuta retreat — the zoo is rich in natural woodland. The grounds draw crowds for cherry blossoms (sakura) in spring and autumn foliage (kōyō). Home to Kyushu's only white tiger and a total of 71 species and 315 animals presented in habitats designed to feel close to nature.

Built around 1852, this rest house was used by the lords of the Higo Hosokawa domain during alternate-attendance journeys and territorial inspections. It is the only surviving ochaya in the prefecture and is designated a National Historic Site.
